Chard Vets 33pts Crewkerne Vets 17pts
A very good crowd turned up at the club on Boxing day at 1pm to watch the club vets take on their Crewkerne counterparts in a match for the Kevin Templeman Memorial Cup.
Kevin had been a real stalwart of the club and had played regularly for the club for many years right up into his 60s to not long before his sad passing in February 2020.
Despite the heavy rain that fell on Christmas day the pitch was in remarkably good condition and there was no danger of the game being called off.
With most players well into their 40’s and indeed several more well beyond this the game was played in great spirit ... quite literally for several!
With the likes of Merv Bowditch in the Crewkerne team and Paul Wright and Mike Duffy playing for Chard this really was a game which proved you can play at any age!
The result was of little importance but for the record Chard scored five tries and four conversions and Crewkerne three tries and one conversion.
At the end of the proceedings Ian Fielder presented the trophy to Chard skipper Wayne Lewis.
League rugby does not return until Saturday 8th January when the 1st xv travel to Bideford and the 2nd xv entertain Wyvern at 2 30pm
